Today in class we were told about our first assignment. Our first assignment required us to talk about educational technologies. The assignment was broken into two parts which were to be done by group work. There are two parts to the assessment. One which requires us to research a case study on a particular educational technology and put it up on a wiki. Whilst the other part requires the group to do a presentation on their educational technologies in front of the class. I’m looking forward to this assessment as i feel that it will provide me with a lot of insight,knowledge and depth into a particular educational technology.

Today in e-Learning there were significant changes to the case study assessment we have been doing. The due date for the core assessment (the wiki part) has now been pushed back to Monday the 24^th of September and the Extra part (Individual blog post) is now due on the Monday the 1^st of October.  

My experience of collaborating within a Wiki has been quite positive. I have found that the Wiki is easy and efficient to use and is a good communication tool for myself and my group members. Even though my group hasnt formally “posted” anything yet we are still quite capable of using the wiki.

 So far, I haven’t come across many challenges. One that I did face was sorting out case studies to fit my group topic. This was quite a difficult challenge to do, as there is a lot of non relevant information to sort through to actually find accurate and correct information.

Ok, so we were asked to define our topic for our assessment so here I go…

Definition:

We are looking at measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of e-learning in the workplace and schools . We would find evidence to support this question by looking at relevant case studies

Why this topic is of interest to you and your group

This topic is of interest to my group and I as measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of e-Learning is not that public or open. Therefore the reasons and methods why e-Learning is measured would be quite interesting and unknown. My group and I decided to do this topic as it was a lot easier to research and find out, other than the other topics we originally chose.

This week in e-Learning we looked at :

Breadcrumbs-Like a trail of breadcrumbs. Which shows you where you are on a site.

Cookies- Are textfiles that ensure security

Digital Natives-is a person who has grown up with digital technology .For example Computers, Mobiles and the Internet

Digital Immigrants-Is a person who grew up without digital technology and adopted it later in life

Net Generation-Are those individuals that were the first to grow up being immersed in a digital and Internet driven world. Where they were the first to find out information on the Internet and spent majority of their time on the Internet

 In our groups for the Assessment G5 were debating on how we should go about finding our information. There is still a lot of confusion over which topic we have formally chosen. After talking to our teacher we now have a lot more information and knowledge on where and how to find information for our assessment. We were advised to choose “Measuring outcomes and effectiveness” as this topic would be significantly easier to research.

Today in class we were invited to join wikispaces. On this website we were advised that this was where we would be forming our groups and posting our assessment. My group is called G5 (group 5) because there is five of us. Very original I know lol. My group consists of Laurence, Lia, Karmen and Artha .  We have decided on two topics and from these topics we will decide what we will do our assessment on. The two topics are “Buy or Build Courses” or “Measuring outcomes and effectiveness”. Im kind of leaning towards “Measuring outcomes and effectiveness” as I feel there will be more information and resources then “Buy or Build Courses” as some companies may not want to disclose this information and it will be harder to find. I feel that this group will work quite well together and will not have any major problems or issues.
